GE-visIci - An innovative pilot project for learning on the move

How to reconcile learning French, socio-cultural integration and sports practices, preferably in the great outdoors!

GE-visIci – To learn by climbing, moving, having fun!

An innovative program that includes climbing classes to practice French with Francophones and integrate in Geneva as well as discover other cultures!

The summer break provides us with an opportunity to review the first successful edition of the GE-visIci program, which opened at the end of 2022. As a reminder, this program aims to facilitate the learning of French and the socio-cultural integration of allophone children and adolescents from 8 to 16 years living in the canton of Geneva through sports activities in pairs with French-speaking children.

So far, more than 30 children and teenagers have been able to benefit from it by participating in various sports activities such as climbing on SAE (Artificial Climbing Structure) or cliff, but also hiking, Via Ferrata, cave exploration, various sports activities, nature discovery trail, etc. In fact, not only sports activities per se, but also shared moments (training, meals, travel, discovering nature, unusual objects, etc.) contribute to providing support points for achieving the objectives of the GE-visIci program.

This is the core of Tchili Easy Learning: contextual learning in motion or – why not? – the vertical progression. It consists of a scenario and is an opportunity to communicate in relation to real situations in addition to classes and exercises given in groups in face-to-face, as well as distance learning for specific French courses. These courses are provided independently via the Tchili Moodle – the online learning platform that offers audio content, learning materials and complementary exercises developed by the association.

Everything is done in movement, in a playful and friendly spirit, where cooperation and communication are made necessary by the bonding in pairs. This makes learning French natural and fluid, and makes it especially organic, in the sense that it is perceived and experienced as inserted into a territory, practices, culture, which promotes ithe participants’ integration as a whole.

The kids had great adventures and learned while climbing and having fun along the way! Unforgettable moments that will remain engraved in their memory and will make them want to continue the friendships born during this program, their language learning, as well as the achievements on the sporting and cultural levels. Last but not least, we are pleased to note that the other central element of the GE-VisIci program, namely the socio-cultural integration of allophone participants, regardless of their location, has been perfectly successful.
